COMO OLIVER HAZARD PERRY POST 1813
GREETINGS FROM COMMANDER
LEAVER
Since the last issue, our only official Post event has been the Ohio Scottish Games in Wellington.  We had a good turnout even though the weather was pretty soggy leading up to it.  Saturday was a good day.  We were honored to be the official color guard for the parade of Tartans on Saturday.  Yours truly, new member Mark Melroy and Ray McFee carried the flags.  On Friday, McFee was our man on the field for the Roll Call of the Clans torchlight service.

We passed out twelve applications to potential new members.  Back home, we followed up with a mailing including a short history of SAMS.  Sadly, we haven’t gotten any feedback at post level (many were from Northern Ohio and Michigan) but if we can recruit for National, that will make the organization stronger.

In August, some of us attended the farewell party for Jodie McFee.  Those of you who weren’t  able to attend missed some good food and a lot of fun.  Jodie’s currently at the Mobilization Station in Camp Shelby, MS.  She’ll have a short leave in early October. She will go overseas after that and is expected to remain in country for a year.  Jodie has a website: http.//cptmcfee.homestead.com where she’ll be posting pictures and comments as her mobilization goes on.  She already has a couple pages of pictures.

There is a proposal to change the bylaws regarding terms of office.  It’s published separately in this issue.
Start thinking about the Veterans’ Day Parade.  Let’s have as many as possible there.

                                     PROPOSED BY LAW CHANGE

It is proposed to change the bylaws of Post 1813 as follows:

(Existing)

ARTICLE VII- TERMS of OFFICE and ELECTIONS

3.  Election of Commander and Adjutant will be in even-numbered years; for Executive Officer and Comptroller in uneven-numbered years.  An exception is called for when such election could foreshorten any term to less than two years.

(Proposed Change)

ARTICLE VII- TERMS of OFFICE and ELECTIONS

 3.  Election of all elected officers  will be in uneven-numbered years.  Officers whose term would have expired in 2006 will continue in their capacity until the election of 2007.  An exception is called for when such election could foreshorten any term to less than two years.

Discussion: This change is proposed to relieve the burden of holding elections every year.

This proposed change will be presented at the quarterly meeting September21, 2006 and will be voted upon at the December meeting.

Due to an “equipment malfunction” we don’t have pictures of Ohio games or last meeting but will, if possible, include them in next issue.
